When this picture was taken in September of 2019 we were forming our classroom community, having fun while we were learning together. Our Room 24 classroom community is strong and we will come together now through blog posts, through on line learning opportunities, paper resources and through land based learning in our home communities. We can share our memories and our new stories through this blog so when we are missing our friends at school, we can come to this blog, look at the pictures of the great things we did together and look forward to seeing each other again when it's safe. The Citrus Challenge On our last day together, we had our second citrus challenge. The citrus challenge is an opportunity for students to try a small slice of lemon, lime, pink grapefruit and mandarin orange. Some students enjoyed the challenge of determining which citrus fruit is actually the most sour, where the sour taste receptors are located on their tongues and learning that most citrus fruit is very high in sugar. We also had a chip challenge last October that featured carrot chips, parsnip chips and corn chips. Not all chips are made from potatoes! We learned that parsnip chips are not as good as corn chips, that carrot chips are shaped like triangles and that chips are very salty. Everyone at PFS hopes your family is safe together and that you have good food to eat. PFS Families - If you are needing help with food resources, please let us know. We don't have hampers to give away but we can connect you with resources that could help. To all the students of Piitoayis Family School - we miss you. We hope you are safe with your families and enjoying having more time together. Don't forget to continue with Daily 5 reading everyday that you can - read to yourself, read to someone, listen to a story, write what you know about that story and practice 10 spelling words everyday. Our spelling words for this week can be the numbers from one to ten written out in letter form. If you can go higher than ten, do it! Ms. Nancy will blog post again next week with more pictures and great ideas for math games. Be Safe, Be Well and Be Kind to Yourself and to your Family. Oki Pookaiks and Tansi Nitotems! Welcome to our Room 24 blog post for April 8th, 2020. We hope that you are safe and well with your families. The teachers at PFS are home with their families, trying to keep safe too. Our Administrative team bravely continues to work at Piitoayis School and parents have been able to come by to pick up student belongings. Please call first for availability times. We were busy this week mailing letters to all the students of Piitoayis Family School. Each PFS student should be receiving a letter from their teacher in the mail later this week. We wanted to send some love out to our students and their families and let you know that learning together will be a bit different for awhile. We also want to make sure we have all our families phone numbers and addresses correct so that when we start sending paper resources home to you for homework, they arrive without any problems. Homework? Yup - Homework is on it's way.... We are still working on ensuring families have the technology necessary for virtual classroom learning and are currently developing paper resources to mail directly to families at their homes. Watch for Iikiinayookaa's principal messages for more details.
